History

On April 29, 2000 at an Executive Council meeting of the Porsche Club of America in Roanoke,  VA.,  the High Desert Region was granted a charter to become the 142nd Region in the PCA.  The Region is comprised of the following 13 Oregon counties:  Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook, Baker, Gilliam, Grant, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco and Wheeler. 

Formerly known as the Eastern Chapter of the Cascade Region and at other times as the Central Oregon Porsche Enthusiasts (COPE), the club met once a month at various local restaurants in the Central Oregon area for breakfast.  At one of our winter gatherings in early 1999 a discussion arose concerning the difficulties we had attending Cascade Region events which were typically held over 100 miles away on the west side of the Cascades mountains that divide the state.  Not only were the distances long but in the winter the snow-covered passes were intimidating enough to discourage almost all pleasure trips!  What was needed according to member Fred Faria, was for us to form our own region.

Spearheaded by Fred Faria and with the help of Brian Gingrich and then President Bill Moore, application was made to the national PCA office for recognition of the newly organized "High Desert Region".  Thanks to the efforts of those three plus many others,  our region status was achieved in April of 2000.  Formal presentation of the official document was made on August 3, 2000 by Zone 6 Representative Dick Grant to President Bill Moore at a Charter Dinner held on the lawn of the Athletic Club of Bend surrounded by examples of our favorite marque.
